On one of the recent MindPump Podcast episodes someone asked about skipping Back Squats because they were unable to do them. They could do Front and Zercher Squats with no problem, but wanted to know if they could just skip the Back Squat.. This question really hit home for me as this was literally me last year, I could not do a Back Squat, I could never get the bar in the right place because of my shoulder and I just didn't have the mobility needed to do them, or so I thought.
At the beginning of this year I started out doing a 5x5 style workout as opposed to any of the MAPS programs, this was do to personal peference as I just wanted to work on my core lifts and starting at the bottom of the weight pile and building up my strength and ROM along with working on my mobility.

I can say that I can now do a back squat with good ROM and a what I think is a decent weight for an old guy (I'm 44). All I can say is that if you think you can't, then you won't... Just remember Failure is an Option! You just have to get back up and do it again..
